Worldwide Weather

Dear Clients

We would like to advise several extreme weather events happening worldwide.

Philippine authorities moved thousands of residents of the capital, Manila, out of their low-lying communities on Saturday as heavy monsoon rain, compounded by a tropical storm, flooded the city and nearby provinces.

Earlier on Saturday, residents of Metro Manila and nearby provinces were awoken following a 6.6-magnitude earthquake that struck the neighbouring province of Batangas.

India is now on ‘orange’ alert. More than 135 people have died from flooding and landslides triggered by heavy monsoon rains in India.

In Maharashtra state, 114 people have been killed, including more than 40 in a landslide that hit the hillside village of Taliye, south of Mumbai, on Thursday.

In Himachal Pradesh state, nine people have died when massive boulders cascading down the mountainside slammed into the structure on Sunday afternoon.

Floods have swamped areas of Belgium and washed away cars as a wave of thunderstorms and heavy rain hit the country on Saturday. More the 210 deaths have been reported in western Europe in last week due to flooding.

The provinces of Namur and Walloon Brabant south-east of the capital city Brussels were particularly hit. They had already been impacted by the devastating floods that left 36 people dead and seven missing in the nation with 11.5 million inhabitants last week.

6 p.m. Japanese time Monday, Nepartak was a tropical storm with winds of 40 mph. It was located a little more than 300 miles east of the Boso Peninsula. Meanwhile, the tropical storm is sweeping northwest toward northern Japan.

Tropical storm In-fa spent several days as a typhoon north of Taiwan last week. China has shut down railways and ports, with container ships ordered out of the sea and 90% of flights cancelled. More than 73,000 people were being evacuated from Anyang, on Henan’s border with Hebei province, after the city was swamped by more than 600mm (24 inches) of rainfall since Monday.

At least 33 people have been confirmed dead, with eight missing, in record-breaking floods in central China that have forced tens of thousands of people to evacuate their homes.

Please keep in mind with such extreme weather events it is likely we will see congestion, vessel delays and port closures.
