Shipping Line Service Suspensions
Dear Customers,
Due to the recent Protected Industrial Action events, several shipping lines have suspended bookings from various trade lanes to all AU ports
- OOCL/COSCO sent a notice yesterday advising the suspension of bookings to Australia ex SEA and Europe.
- MSC, Maersk and ANL have suspended bookings ex India to AU
These services have stopped for all of October, with the possibility of stoppages flowing over into November.

Industrial Action Update
Dear Customers,
As you may know, Port Botany, Sydney has been dealing with a great deal of Industrial Action as of late.
Stockwell International has received update from Patrick Terminals that after a day and half of talks at the FWC, the MUA announced it would immediately end industrial action at Patrick terminals in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Fremantle.
DP World has also reached an agreement with the MUA stating “No protected industrial action will take place for the term of the three-year agreement, delivering stability for our customers and the wider NSW supply chain”.

Attorney General’s Request for Information
Dear Customers,
Stockwell International has been notified that the office of the Attorney General is requesting information on on the impact Sydney ports issue is having on the businesses that our clients represent.
The Attorney General’s office would appreciate a letter or email from you who are being impacted or who are concerned about the effects of this ongoing industrial action.
Chief Executive Officer of International Forwarders & Customs Brokers Association of Australia Paul Damkjaer said in his statement “The letter should focus on how they are being impacted, what delays or additional costs they have incurred, what if any flow-on effects the delays have caused”.
Stockwell International has been advised that anyone wishing to proceed would need to be comfortable with the letter potentially being submitted as evidence to the Fair Work Commission in the event the Attorney decides to intervene in support of terminating the industrial action.

Congestion Surcharge Update
Dear Customers,
As you may know, Port Botany, Sydney has been dealing with a great deal of Industrial Action as of late. These strikes, go slows and work bans have caused ongoing congestion, resulting in an excess of more than 50,000TEU of cargo that has not been shipped out of the system.
This has caused numerous shipping lines to charge a congestion fee into Port Botany, see most recent news alert here.
Stockwell International has been advised by shipping line MSC that due to industrial action the congestion in Brisbane port is approximately 10 days behind and Melbourne approximately 9-10 days behind schedule, for this reason MSC will be implementing a congestion surcharge of
- US$300/TEU effective 15th of October 2020 (bill of lading date) for USA cargo dated 29th October.

Emergency General Rate Increase

Stockwell International has received notice that in light of the continued Industrial Action and several shipping lines being impacted a GRI as of 2nd OCtober has been implemented:
- Europe, Med, & UK via Singapore US$ 30 W/M (minimum 1M3)
- Europe, Med, & UK direct to Sydney/Melbourne US$ 10 W/M minimum 1M3)
