Southern China Port Congestion Update
Congestion levels at the Shenzhen Ports of Shekou and Yantian have reached critical stage.

As many of you are aware the situation in Shenzhen continues to deteriorate across ports in the entire area.

Yantian port shut down for 5 days due to a COVID-19 outbreak – causing a massive backlog that also continues to worsen as the port is currently only working at 50% with high yard density of 90% due to the COVID-19 restrictions the Government has put in place, now many vessels are omitting Yantian and Shekou to minimise congestion and vessel idle time.

Please keep in mind this congestion will cause delays across all South China Ports including Nansha, Hong Kong, Foshan, Yantian and Shekou. Stockwells will continue to update customers when information becomes available. Shipping line CMA CGM has announced that due to the congestion in Yantian, most reefer plugs already being occupied. Becuase of this the shipping line has announced a port congestion surcharge. Port Congestion Surcharge: USD 1,250 per Reefer containerEMC currently have no 20NOR’s available in ChinaOnly a few carriers right now are accepting bookings ex North China (Xingang, Dalian) due to space and equipment issues. Other carriers have very small allocations from these ports as they are not on direct routes. The equipment situation in Asia remains tight across all equipment types. In order to secure the desired equipment types multiple yards need to be contacted. EMC Shanghai are only releasing containers 5 days from the confirmed ETD due to these shortages.Bookings ex Asia, specifically China, are very strong right now with vessels booking out 3-4 weeks in advance. For more info on the current congestion in South China, click here.
